Am reusit sa rezolv problema astfel:
1. am inlocuit index.html cu index.php in root, astfel ca nicaieri in site-ul meu nu se mai regaseste un index.html
2. am mutat blogul (din control panelul lui) de la domain.tld/folder la folder.domain.tld
3. am scris .htaccess-ul astfel:

Options -Indexes +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain.tld [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.tld$1 [L,R=301]
RedirectMatch 301 ^/folder/(.*)$ http://folder.domain.tld/$1
