Dear fellow editor,
Throughout this past year, editors and staff have invested their time, love, and care into the ODP. In addition to our regular editing challenges, many of our accomplishments were backstage improvements: development of new quality control tools, quality assessment, research on editor numbers, new application processing, and staffers rolled out a new set of servers. None of these are the type to create big headlines. But each was a positive step for our future.
Then the old editors server crashed. The damage done was so serious, it is nothing short of a miracle that we can edit again today. As a result, we have a lot of work ahead of us to maintain our place as the most comprehensive Directory on the web. But our community is one of our greatest assets. It is made up of a tremendous group of editors that make the ODP truly unique. Every single one of us shares a part of the Directory. We thank each and every volunteer who has contributed to maintaining, developing, and improving the Directory. Every edit made helps to keep the Directory alive. Every edit made is a step in support of its main goal. Every edit made has helped build the most comprehensive Directory on the web.
